Love Story Online

Finding love isn't the easiest thing to find but we all seem to be open to the idea. If you are looking for love then you need to see what it is that you want and then look for it because you need to give off the right vibe to attract what you are looking for. If you want to meet the right person to love then you need to show what you are looking for.

I had just come to the "messy" end of a relationship that left me completely drained.

I had decided that I would never find anyone quite like my ex, luckily for me, I was right! I was living in a small community and going to school when I decided to be pro-active and find a few internet friends. I found a site and put an advertisement in the 'seeking friends' category. Approximately fifty men responded to my advertisement. Although some of the inquiries sent to me were not appealing or appropriate, I found one that was simply charming.

It was apparent to me that the person writing the note was not a native English speaker. His sentences were far from grammatically correct, and his spelling was atrocious! He claimed to be French.

I had taken several years of French in High School and College and knew enough to write a short, grammatically incorrect letter in French as a reply. You see, I was testing him, making sure that he was who he said he was. To my relief and joy, I received a lengthy letter in French as a reply with a short English translation at the bottom of the page.

We emailed for three months before we decided to 'meet' online via an internet service called pal talk. It was on pal talk that I first heard his voice thick with a charming French accent! I was also able to see a picture of him online! Unfortunately for him, I did not own a scanner or a web-cam so he had no idea what I looked like! We continued to meet on pal talk every other night for two months.

The day after Christmas (2000), we met for the first time at a Chinese restaurant that I picked. (He lived about 50 miles away from my parent’s home.) He was so charming, and his mouth dropped open when he saw what I looked like. Later on, he confided to me that he was sure I would not be beautiful because of the lack of my online picture, but he enjoyed my personality so much that he didn't really care what I looked like. He was happily surprised by my appearance.

Butterflies had taken over my stomach and I was a nervous wreck when we finally met, face to face, but I soon felt at home with him. In fact, we went out three more times while I was visiting my parents over the holidays!

It has been almost two years since we started emailing one another. In that time we have become engaged and we are moving to France together. As I sit her and think about my darling, I am so glad that I had the courage to step outside of my comfort circle and place that online add. What a difference a decision makes!
